Course Overview

The OSHA 30-Hour General Industry program is a proprietary compliance training course aligned with OSHA General Industry standards. It is designed for individuals with safety responsibilities or those who support workplace safety programs.

The course focuses on hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention. Learners will develop a practical understanding of common general industry hazards, safety and health programs, emergency procedures and key OSHA-related workplace safety requirements.

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Explain worker rights and employer responsibilities under the OSH Act and OSHA standards
  • Identify and evaluate common hazards in general industry workplaces
  • Apply appropriate hazard control measures using established safety principles
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of workplace safety and health programsDemonstrate awareness of emergency procedures and incident prevention practices

Module 1: Introduction to OSHA (2 Hours)
• Worker rights and employer responsibilities
• Filing safety complaints
• OSHA resources and assistance
• Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and injury/illness records
Module 2: Managing Safety and Health (2 Hours)
• Injury and illness prevention programs
• Workplace inspections
• Accident prevention methods
• Management commitment and employee involvement
• Incident investigations
• Conducting safety meetings
Module 3: Walking-Working Surfaces & Fall Protection (1 Hour)
• Slip, trip, and fall hazards
• Floor and wall openings
• Ladders and stairways
Module 4: Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans & Fire Protection (2 Hours)
• Emergency exit routes
• Evacuation procedures
• Fire prevention plans
• Basic fire protection principles
Module 5: Electrical Safety (2 Hours)
• Common electrical hazards
• Safe work practices
• Basic compliance requirements
Module 6: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (1 Hour)
• PPE hazard assessment
• Selection, use, and limitations of PPE
Module 7: Materials Handling (2 Hours)
• Manual material handling
• Storage and stacking safety
• Mechanical handling awareness, including forklifts and powered equipment
Module 8: Hazard Communication (1 Hour)
• Chemical hazards
• GHS labels and pictograms
• Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
• Workplace Hazard Communication programs

At least five elective topics are selected, with each topic delivered for a minimum of 30 minutes. Topics include:

• Welding, Cutting, and Brazing
• Introduction to Industrial Hygiene
• Bloodborne Pathogens
• Ergonomics

• Safety and Health Programs
• Powered Industrial Vehicles (Forklifts)

Additional general industry hazards or expanded coverage of mandatory or elective topics may be delivered, with a minimum of 30 minutes per topic.
